BURGER KING NEW TITLE SPONSOR OF CLASSIC
The top four-team high school basketball tournament in the country will continue to be played locally with a new title sponsor. Cathedral Prep and the local Burger King restaurants have agreed to a multi-year agreement that will see the McDonald’s Classic transformed into the Burger King Classic. The move ends a 27-year relationship of the tournament with McDonald’s while starting anew with Burger King.
"Erie is a Burger King ® town so we continuously strive to be actively involved in the community and contribute to making our hometown a great place to live,” said Karla Murray, Marketing Director of Burger King. “Burger King is proud to support this nationally recognized basketball tournament and all of the athletes who compete, both of which bring great pride to an already great community.”
For the 28th consecutive year, Cathedral Prep will serve as the host school for the Classic. It will take place January 14th and 15th, 2011 at Gannon’s Hammermill Center.
“We could not be more pleased with the arrangement we have with Burger King to continue not only a local but a national tradition,” said Bill Flanagan, Classic Director. “We are very appreciative to McDonald’s for 27 good years of serving this event but are real excited about the commitment Burger King has made to the Classic beginning in 2011.”
The field for the ’11 Classic will be announced in November. The brand new Classic logo was designed by Katie Hanlin from Creative Affairs.
