Curriculum
Cathedral Prep offers a demanding college prep curriculum that prepares students to handle the academic rigors of college. A variety of courses are offered that challenge our students to grow and develop their knowledge and skills in a variety of subject areas. In addition to the core curriculum, a variety of electives are offered to broaden and tap into the students' interests.
Levels of Courses of Study
The Cathedral Preparatory School offers three levels of study in college preparatory work designed as follows:
a. Advanced Placement (AP)/Advanced Standing (AS) College level courses offered to able, ambitious students and designed to meet the Advanced Placement Examinations of the College Entrance Examination Board.
b. Honors (H) College preparatory courses which require advanced work or in-depth study beyond regular academic requirements.
c. Regular ® College preparatory courses which meet the average standards of college entrance requirements and geared to a slower pace than the Honors courses.
Requirements for Graduation
A full course taken for one year gives the student one unit of credit. Courses not taken for a full year are given units of credit in accordance with the time frame of the class. Each student must satisfactorily complete the following:
- A four-year sequence in Theology, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies;
- A foreign language through two years of one language (a third year is available and encouraged but not required);
- Two credits in Health and Physical Education taken over the four years;
- 1 credit in a fine arts elective;
- 3 credits of one of the general electives for classes 2009 & 2010 and 4 credits of general electives for classes 2011 & 2012;
- 20 service hours each of the four years.
- A minimum of 30 academic credits is required for the classes of 2011 & 2012. A minimum of 29 academic credits is required for the classes of 2009 & 2010..
